Artists paint ostrich eggs for Easter.
Brouwerij ‘t IJ does not often make the link between ‘t IJ and an egg, but this Easter we are making a nice exception: We bought 32 ostrich eggs and asked artists to paint them. The result: a beautiful, colorful collection of works of art that will hopefully never break. In the run-up to Easter, they can be admired at Hubert in Nijmegen and Sissi’s Expo in Amsterdam.
Brewing the spring beer PaasIJ feels like a party every year. The guys from the brewery wanted to show that in 2019 and so they thought hard about how to celebrate. Of course with a classic: painting eggs! Because Eggshibition was a great success in 2019, we couldn’t resist collecting new eggs this year and we visited the ostrich farmer. Artis also had some ostrich eggs lying around. We asked cartoonists, television heroes, illustrators, tattoo artists, veterans and up-and-coming talents to paint such a huge egg. They all worked with an egg in their own way and sent it back to the brewery as a unique work of art. The response to this idea was very enthusiastic, so those big eggs flew out the door within a few days. Really nice to see! With every egg that was returned to the brewery painted, the mouths of staff often fell open: real works of art, everyone very proud of the result!
All in all, they are not eggs to hide. That is why we proudly display them during the 2 weekends before Easter in two catering establishments that have a warm heart for the culture. The Eggshibition can be admired at Hubert, in Nijmegen. The exhibition will open festively on the evening of Friday 8 April with the necessary spring beer PaasIJ. A week later, after the opening on April 15 in Amsterdam, they can be found at Sissi’s Expo for the entire Easter weekend.
Whether we can expect a fresh rack of artificial eggs every year from now on, let’s say: First let’s see what you think of these works of art.
