What Brouwerij ’t IJ and VOGELFREI pulled out of their sleeves this time… Eggshibition, get it? On April 19, the fifth edition of this colorful event took place. A striking line-up of artists, designers, and illustrators exhibited over 50 beautifully crafted ostrich eggs. All of that, mixed with all kinds of live music, plenty of PaasIJ beer, and great company.
The day before Easter, Utrecht went wonderfully off-script – and we mean that as a compliment.
Eggs
The ostrich eggs were the foundation of a long, joy-filled day packed with entertainment, local flair, and bold performances. Alongside brand-new creations, eggs from previous years were also on display.
Once again, an open call offered an egg to a student from HKU, the largest art academy in the Netherlands, giving young talent a stage to showcase their work. The artworks drew lots of curious onlookers. Meanwhile, the artists’ studios at De Havenloods opened their doors to the public.
Couleur locale
On the outdoor stage, there were more than enough bold acts to keep the crowd entertained with live music and surprising performances. The silent poetry techno aerobics got people moving together. And never before had anyone seen such fierce competitiveness during a round of hobby ostriching. The party took off, and Utrecht once again showed its best side.
Those who were there know: this was one to remember. Hats off to the artists, performers, and our friends at VOGELFREI who made it all happen.
Beer
The spark behind all the excitement? PaasIJ, a crowd favorite from Brouwerij ’t IJ for over 35 years. It’s the beer that promises spring to the Netherlands every year, with Easter as the high point. It might be sold out by now, but if it’s up to us, same time next year!
