40 years PINT Bokbierfestival

The PINT Bokbierfestival is since 1978 the place to be for lovers of bokbeer. The festival takes place in the last weekend of october and is with it’s 12.000 visitor’s the biggest in it’s kind. The weekend of the 27th till the 29th of october, the PINT Bokbierfestival celebrates it’s 40th edition! This year in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam, but this wasn’t always the case.

The first edition took place in 1978 in the famous beerpub Gollem in the Raamsteeg and started small. Only a few bokbeers and 65 visitors came. But people liked the Bokbierfestival so much that café Gollem wasn’t a big enough venture after only two editions. So the festival moved to Artis Zoo for a few years. In the years till 1994 the festival took place on many different places, like the Olympic Stadium. From 1994 on, the festival takes place at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. This was a smart move, because the PINT Bokierfestival evolved to one of the biggest events in town and the biggest bokbeerfestival in the world, thanks to the central location and big halls of the Beurs van Berlage.

Of course you can find us at the PINT Bokbierfestival. This year we take two bokbeers with us, of course our traditional IJbok. But also his spicy broter: Kaneelbok. So let the organization know if you will be there and get your tickets and tokens while they are available. We see you there.

What date was the 1994 festival please? It’s significant because that was the date my (now) wife and I got together.

Significant indeed Chris. According to Wikipedia that should have been 11, 12, or 13 November of that year. Will you be back for the ‘silver wedding’ next year?
